T&TVBKA HONEY SHOW 2011

2011 Schedule, Rules and Entry Form are here!
UPDATE : 2011 Honey Show Prizewinners : http://twickenham-bees.blogspot.com/2011/10/92nd-t-honey-show-cup-classes-results.html

Just to remind everyone that the honey show will be on the 9th of October at 1pm this year, so only 6 weeks to go.
There are lots of thing you can do to help make the show a success.
We need lots of entries, honey, candles, cakes, produce, pictures, mead and many more categories. See the schedule below and have a look and see which categories you could enter. There has been a downward trend in entries over the past few years so lets see if we can reverse the trend this year and have a really good show. Don't feel you have to have the world most perfect honey to enter, it is a competition but also its a way of showing how popular and rewarding beekeeping is. The hall looks wonderful when filled with hundreds of jars of honey of varying shades. If there are only a few jars of perfect honey the show would be a failure. There is plenty of advice on preparing honey for a show on the BBKA website, which boils down to filter it well, make sure your jars match and are scrupulously clean.
Please please start to get your entries ready and your forms in in plenty of time. Entries are free until the 1st of October and entries submitted after this will be charged £1 per person (not per entry) as a spur to get people to prepare their entries in early, so we don't have heart attacks again this year when the show is due to open in a week and we only have two entries!! (thanks Val).
We will have either a tombola or raffle depending on what sort of items we accumulate. Please bring in your unwanted gift items suitable for a tombola/raffle. There will be a large labelled box at the Apiary to collect items in.
We also hope to have a jams and preserves stall subject to getting plenty of donations. If you are making Jams, Jellies or Chutneys can you make a couple spare, which you can enter into the show and/or donate to the show for sale.
As always there will be a cake stall, so plan to cook and bring your best cakes and buns for sale on the day as this is always one of the most popular features of the show for visitors.
And of course we will need lots of volunteers to make the show a success. We will need some to help get the apiary clean and shipshape in the week running up to the show, and people to run stalls on the day. There will be a sign up sheet in the apiary but if anyone is able to volunteer to do something but will not be at the apiary, can you let me or Penny know and we will sign you up accordingly.

Any queries you can contact me, Tessa, at tessalash@hotmail.com or Penny at pennyschwier@me.com
